Get To Know Yourself Better With These Practices

Making time for self-reflection is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. As we get to know ourselves better and more realistically, our overall well being is enhanced, we have more access to peace in our lives, and our relationships thrive more easily. Self-reflection is a way of taking responsibility for how we show up in the world. It moves us forward in a more effective way increasing happiness at the end of the day.

Practices to help you get to know yourself more intimately:

  1. Explore yourself through journaling by responding to these questions:

    1. What lit me up as a child that I’d like to reignite?

    2. How have I changed over the last 5 years?

    3. What are my personal values?

    4. What makes me feel good? What do I enjoy?

    5. How do I handle difficulty/stress? What helps and what doesn't?

    6. How do I maintain harmony in my life? What does harmony mean to me?

    7. What would I do if I knew I could not fail?

    8. What do I wish more people knew about me? Why?

    9. What do I think the meaning of life is? Why do I think I’m here?

  2. Practice stillness in meditation. How often do you find yourself truly sitting still, doing absolutely nothing beyond simply existing and observing your thoughts? It’s a powerful practice that reveals the innermost workings of the mind. It can shed light on your looping thought patterns which can be quite revealing. You may not have ever noticed these thought patterns until taking the time to sit with yourself and let whatever needs to come through, come through. Blind spots often appear which then gives you the power to make a new choice or shift in your thinking. Awareness is the beginning of all change.

  3. Have a deep conversation with someone who cherishes you and whom you care deeply about. Explore topics that peak your curiosity. This will foster insight and bring about answers that teach you something new about yourself and your beliefs. You could use the above journal prompts as conversation topics if needed.

  4. Do something that scares you. By ‘scares’, I mean ‘challenges’ you in a way that will take you beyond your comfort zone. Not only will this build your confidence, it will show you how you respond to stress, at what points you want to give up, and at where and when you really go for it. We often get to know ourselves the most honestly in the face of a challenge.

  5. Take a deep dive into the subconscious. This is where hypnotherapy can be a life changing tool. Hypnosis grants access to who we are beyond the ego and the waking self we most identify with. It shows us deeply ingrained patterns and connections and ties to beliefs, people, places, etc. The subconscious holds the most honest accounts of who we are and what makes us tick.

If you’d like to explore your subconscious through hypnosis, you’re in the right place! Here are some reflections from a dear client:

“Andrea has done a wonderful job of using hypnotherapy to deal with my emotional and psychological needs while at the same time forcing me to work on root issues. I have gained new insights into core issues that I did not realize were at work, stress release and visions of new realities and the guidance and encouragement to work toward new goals. Anyone in need of stress release, breaking boundaries / obstacles/ habits, setting and achieving new goals should consider working with Andrea.” -  Rudi W., Attorney, TX
